Challenges & Solutions
A new walk-in chiller was proposed at a challenging location which is at a recessed space between the existing storage and staff rooms. This chiller will push the building’s footprint towards the boundary which may trigger additional external fire ratings to one of the elevations. The base building is old and unoccupied without any previous fire reports. Igneous Fire carried out a gap assessment for the entire building to ensure the proposed store will not affect the fire alarm system and fire egress of the building. We also carried out a conservative horizontal fire spread assessment for the elevation where the new chiller is located after discussions and investigations with the design team on the building materials of the existing external walls.
Results
No external fire rating is required. This approach helped the client and the design team on consent approval with a limited number of RFI and a quick turnaround time.
